In 2020, Melbourne Design Week explores the role of how design can shape life from big-picture thinking around global events to transforming the routines of everyday life. Programmed around the theme ‘How Can Design Shape Life?’, the festival asks participants to experiment with ideas, materials, places, and processes to respond to this question. You can count with 85 exhibitions, 94 talks, 15 films, 22 tours and 16 workshops celebrating the best of local, national and international design.

This year Melbourne Design Week has expanded to over 300 events, but it holds to its core a Melbourne attitude rather than an aesthetic, in this expansion. This attitude is a responsibility for design to imagine and create better ways of doing things. You do not need to be a designer or from Melbourne or Victoria to have this attitude. Join them and talk, make, share, eat, discuss and listen, but most importantly, imagine a better life today.

“Melbourne has a well-deserved reputation for leading Australian design and innovation,” commented Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV. “The way Melbourne Design Week has grown is a testament to the way the city fosters its designers. This is a celebration of a growing industry and an opportunity for practitioners and design enthusiasts to discover and discuss the best of Australian and global design practice.”

It all goes down around town from March 12 to 22. Make sure you don’t miss Melbourne Design Week.
