Launched in 2009, only three years later Beijing Design Week became an international event, acknowledged all over the world as an A-level design event since Beijing won the title of City of Design entitled by UNESCO. Every year, it is held by Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group and Beijing Industrial Design Center. After years of experience, the event acquired major sub-events and sections, thus becoming an important platform for both visitors and professionals to express their creativity. It’s one of the biggest and influential platforms in Asia, that sees collaborations and partnerships with design school, design venues, and high-tech companies – without forgetting the opening in 2015 of Tianjing and Hebei, side venues of Beijing Design Week, that extend the action and influence of the design event from downtown to suburban areas. Moreover, important international cooperations with the major cities in the world have been created to organize exchange and exhibitions and meeting with international design studios, institutes, and designers. BEIJING DESIGN WEEK 2019 EVENT GUIDE

WHEN & WHERE

The event will be held for a month from September 5^th to October 7^th – with important events concentrated in the first half of the month – at the China Millennium Monument, the National Agricultural Exhibition Center and other design venues designated by the Organizing Committee. Over 500 design activities have been organized with more than 150 projects brought by industry experts from everywhere.

WHAT YOU CAN’T MISS

BEIJING DESIGN AWARD

On September 5^th the opening ceremony will take place at the China Millennium Monument, with the celebration of 2018 Classic Design Award and the organization of the unveiling ceremony. Also, the opening ceremony of the thematic exhibitions, giving the guests and visitors a first taste of the following days. Other awards that will be assigned are the Cultural Expo Design Award, the Traditional Craft Design Award, the Modern Service Design Award, and the Classic Design Award.

GUEST CITY

From September 5^th to 7^th Mexico City will be the 2019 Guest City of the design event: “Crossover Design” is the name of the exhibitions focused on the diffusion of original Mexican design concepts from different perspectives and to different audiences.

BEIJING DESIGN EXPO

From September 12^th to 16^th, at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, the larger section of the design even – Beijing Design Expo – will be presented to be the common thread between industry, design, and consumption, thus creating an interesting event that managed to have a huge success for its powerful reach. “Innovation Forges the Future”, “Power from creation”, “Smart city”, “Artistic life”, “Collective community” and “Dream for future”.

THEMATIC EXHIBITIONS

For the whole month, thematic exhibitions will be held at the Digital Art Hall of China Millennium Monument, such as “National Image Design at the Beginning of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China”: on the occasion of the 70^th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China, Beijing Design Week will explore the fertile years of Chinese design production, when the past generations experienced an unusually creative and productive momentum, and the celebration of their masterpieces and the relative political, cultural and creative importance.
