It was born in 2007 with only 30 designers’ works and 5,000 interested people visiting the place. This year, the 13th edition, is a more complex festival – grown so much from the starting year – in which a definite structure has been perfected to expose the core of the event: a design-centric festival, where reflections and critical thinking about design and its role in our present time and, most of all, in our future, are the shared values of the environment. ŁÓDŹ DESIGN FESTIVAL 2019 EVENT GUIDE
WHEN & WHERE
From May 17th to 26th the event will take place at the Festival Center Art_Inkubator, Tymienieckiego Str. 3, and it will be organized by Łódź Art Center. The motto of ŁDF 2019 will be “Good life”, a reflection about the multiple ways in which objects shape our everyday life. Are we really aware of their potential? “Designers first shape objects and then objects shape us” has now become a rule we swear by, but the question revolving around this year’s theme is if we are consciously reflecting about how much life shaped by this design – and everyday – objects is a really good life. An object can become the vessel of a luxury concept, of happiness, peace or even comfort and the meaning behind it will be the central discussion of the festival, in addition to what that means for us as a design community.
In 2018 the ŁDF attracted 35 thousand visitors; 70 designers were awarded for their distinguished works; 150 designers and curators participated in the program and 86 experts and professionals took care of 26 hours of lectures and meeting. For the 2019 edition will be expecting even bigger numbers!
WHAT YOU CAN’T MISS
Other than the main event – in which a collection of curated exhibitions will revolve around the main theme chosen for this year – other activities will be organized during the ten-day festival.
MAKE ME!
An interesting and valuable competition for young artists to express their artistic capacity through their works; after it an exhibition will take place and it will give them the opportunity to discover their true self and identities with the help of the installations. The winner will bring home the prize of PLN 50,000! Paradyż Award.

On May 26 don’t miss the Special Guest presentation Festival Centre Art_Inkubator (lecture room): renowned speakers will give their contributions and the panel will be an incredible way to reflect about the actual state of design and its implementations and to be inspired by experts of the field.

“The third wave in the community. The further into the future, the closer to each other”
About the technological advantage of the modern times and its consequences, the speech of Agnieszka Polkowska – founder of the first TRENDSPOT, a trend monitoring and implementation studio in Poland – will try to inspire a dialogue about the relationships we form with humans and objects alike.
MAJA GANSZYNIEC
“About naturalness, localness and awareness in design”
Maja Ganszyniec graduated from the Design Product Department of the Royal College of Art in London and the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and founded Studio Ganszyniec, specializing in furniture and industrial product design. Her discourse will center on how trends and fashion translates in our reality and the way mass production is affected by them.
